Woven ribbons

Woven ribbon refers to ribbons that are manufactured by weaving. These ribbons are divided into:

  • Narrow fabric
  • Woven ribbons made from wide fabric

In the case of narrow fabrics, the side edges of the ribbon are ‘woven’ and are therefore produced as part of the actual weaving process. In items of clothing, ribbons with these edges have the benefit of not scratching when they come into contact with the skin. When narrow fabrics are used in technical ribbons, the focus is normally on appearance, stability and durability. This type of edge can only become ‘frayed’ if the threads are destroyed.

In contrast, woven ribbons made from wide fabric are produced from a wide web of material after weaving. For this, the ‘wide fabric’ is cut into ‘narrow strips’ by means of hot or ultrasound cuts. Ribbon edges created by ultrasound achieve almost the same level of wearer comfort against the skin as that of woven edges. They are certainly an alternative when it comes to price.

Narrow fabric & wide fabric with woven-in text, logos and similar features are produced on label looms. Items such as these can therefore be found with woven labels.
